Imperfections
“Accept the distortions in you. Because when you accept them you can transform them. We are all here to find the areas of imperfections, to love them and to understand them”. An excerpt from the book, Becoming Nobody written by Ham Dass. It’s teachings like this that helps me chase a better version of myself. Ham Dass like many teachers such as, Ghandi and Thich Nhat Hanh, help me understand life. Help me value life in its own existence. To Appreciate even the minute things life bring to us Good and Bad. Years ago, I struggled with an identity crisis in understanding who I am and what is my purpose. I would try to hold myself accountable to reach successes I’d see all over social media. Not to say this was bad but everyone and everything seemed so perfect. Living the perfect life, have the perfect car, and the perfect job. This fueled my motivation to achieve something far greater than myself. But instead of diving into the deep end and not being afraid to sink or swim. I swam in the shallow water afraid of showing the world the real me. Because it wasn’t what social media had in mind. Long story short, I deleted all social media accounts and been off for a year and a half before returning back just a few months ago. During that time, I found a purpose far greater than myself. It wasn’t because of the stigma most people say social media causes, it was because I finally began to accept the distortions in me. I began to understand myself better without comparing to what others are doing or seeing. These imperfections helped me; accept me, my purpose and my vision to its core strength. As we struggle with life today, we must understand life has to be. We cannot be in control of the uncontrollable but we can be in control of our peace and understanding. We can take control of it and be able to get a better life. As I struggled for so long in understanding who I am, I’m sure those who are reading this feel or felt one way or another what I been through. Accept your imperfections, accept your own distortions because they are what make you perfect.
